I only work with sterling silver wire or copper, because these metals are natural and will last a life time if they are taken care of properly. Since I only work with un-coated wires, your copper or sterling silver wire wrap will oxidize over time or naturally turn darker. To refresh the shine of your piece they can be cleaned to bring back its natural luster. I only work with these types of metals, because plated materials will discolor over time and can’t be cleaned or restored. Pendants should be worn with care and taken off when you sleep or when you are showering or swimming. Especially in pools or hot tubs! Remember, they will need to be cleaned over time to restore their natural shine.
Natural metals such as sterling silver and copper need to be cleaned over time. Exposure to air, water, and even your body will make your pendent oxidize. This means that your jewelry will lose its shine and start to darken. This doesn’t mean your jewelry is ruined, it only means that you need to clean it! The process of cleaning them is super easy and hardly takes any time at all to do. Here are two of my favorite cleaning methods. Either method will polish your pieces right up. And best of all, everyone has these items in stock!
Note: Cleaning your pendants after wearing by using one of the below listed methods will also reduce and slow down the oxidization process.
Method 1: The Cleaning Power of Vinegar & Baking Soda
- Combine the vinegar and baking soda in a bowl and soak pendants for a few minutes.
- Gently scrub with a toothbrush
- Rinse with water and dry completely
- Repeat as needed
Method 2: A Toothbrush & White Toothpaste
- Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a toothbrush
- Apply gentle scrubbing to your piece
- Rinse with water and dry completely
- Repeat as needed
